JR was born and raised in Council Bluffs, IA. Legally blind since birth, he attended the Iowa Braille And Sight Saving School in Vinton. He went on to Iowa Western Community College. JR joined radio in 2007 as a board operator for KRNT. With the help of the Iowa Department for the Blind and Saga Communications, JR has become an important part of KRNT.
