Digital technology has transformed music, media, and journalism in very similar ways, though the three once-thriving industries have responded in different ways. During his years as a Rolling Stone columnist and pop music critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, UI journalism professor Don McLeese learned what it was like to cover a crumbling industry (major-label music) for another crumbling industry (print newspapers).
